MavAir® Medical

Mobile room air purifier for high-risk patients

Infections caused by aerogenically transmitted pathogens are a frequently underestimated danger for immunosuppressed patients. Viruses, bacteria, fungal spores, fine dust etc. are permanently in the air and are usually not a danger for healthy people.

However, for patients with a weak immune system and people with lung diseases, there is a high infection risk.

By opening windows and doors, by staff and visitors, as well as by renovation and refurbishment work, microorganisms, spores and fine dust enter the direct patient environment and can lead to serious illnesses such as nosocomial pneumonia and aspergillosis.

MavAir® Medical

How it works

The clinically tested air purifiers achieve almost germ-free air in the patient environment within the shortest possible operating times. Viable pathogens are reliably inactivated by non-thermal plasma (proven effectiveness regarding fungal spores, bacteria and viruses). Even with changing air flows, there is a continuously high level of efficiency.

Cold plasma technology
The decisive difference and advantage over other air purification technologies lies in the additional safety level – the 1,500 volt cold plasma field.
This additional technology is used for the sustainable inactivation of living pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria, fungal spores. The plasma function for decontamination of the filters is individually adjustable. Regular decontamination makes sense from an infectious point of view to prevent the multiplication of living pathogens in the filter, their „growing through“ and redistribution into the room air. In addition, this prolongs the service life of the filters while maintaining a consistently good filter performance.

Cold plasma has been used for years in medicine, industry and disaster control, as the ionised gas is able to very quickly and thoroughly remove contaminants from liquids, surfaces (including human) and air without altering or destroying the „carrier material“.

Please note:
Our devices have been designed for minimal distance operation and comply with the high quality and safety requirements of the German health care system and the European Guidelines

Proven effectiveness

The room air examination (hygienic test, airborne germ count measurement as well as air particle determination) has come to the following results:

  • The units filter out suspended particles locally with an effectiveness of > 99,9995% and are suitable for removing airborne particulate contaminants in accordance with the ISO 14644-3 / VDI2083 standards.
  • The units are capable of significantly reducing room contamination by microorganisms (based on VDI6022).
  • In recovery tests according to DIN EN ISO 14644-3, the emitted particle concentration is reduced by 99% within 21 min.
KRINKO-compliant

The MavAir® Medical air purification units comply with the KRINKO requirements for room air quality in the clinical care of immunocompromised patients (cf. Hygiene requirements in the medical care of immunocompromised patients; recommendation of the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), in: Bundesgesundheitsblatt (2010) 53:357-388, DOI 10.1007/s00103-010-1028-9, published online: 20.03.2010).

Areas of application

The MavAir® Medical units are suitable for air purification to protect immunocompromised patients from airborne pathogens in isolation and patient rooms (e.g. where no air handling units are permanently installed or where they are defective).

  • The devices help to prevent latent contamination risks in patient rooms from visitors with e.g. acutely infectious diseases as well as pathogens entering via window ventilation.
  • The units are also suitable for other areas of application where air needs to be cleaned and decontaminated quickly, e.g. for air purification in empty rooms before admitting patients and during or after hospital visits.
  • The devices support the prevention of nosocomial Aspergillus infections associated with demolition, construction and renovation work, as well as water damage in hospitals and their surroundings.
  • The devices support the protection against airborne germs due to stirred-up rotting leaves in the hospital environment.
Multiple benefits for patients, staff and hospital

Benefits for patients: MavAir® Medical air purifiers improve indoor air by removing aerosol-bound viruses, bacteria, allergens, spores, fine dust and odours. The risk of infection is reduced, patient safety is increased and the fears of patients and relatives can be convincingly prevented.

Benefits for staff: MavAir® Medical air purifiers make an important contribution to improved staff protection and reduce fears of contracting hospital germs. Better staff protection demonstrates appreciation. The additional training and education modules offered by MAVENET promote the hygiene competence of the staff.

Benefits for the healthcare facility: MavAir® Medical air purifiers facilitate the daily work routine through convincing performance features and cost savings.

  • flexible place of use for air purification and fast transport, also as an additive safety measure in outbreak situations
  • inexpensive and highly efficient working aid in rooms without or with defective air-handling systems
  • simple and safe operation
  • low noise level
  • increase in staff and patient safety
  • avoidance of additional, extra-budgetary follow-up costs
  • Relief of personnel resources on the wards
  • easy maintenance
  • fewer disruptive effects and calming of the workflow organisation in case of outbreaks

Sources of danger for immunocompromised patients

  • Isolated rooms, transition areas and common rooms without air-handling systems
  • Visitors and staff in hospital rooms colonised by germs and spores
  • Lack of air-handling systems with terminal filters in patient rooms
  • Construction, conversion and demolition work
  • Remediation work after water damage
  • Raking up of rotting leaves in the hospital environment (e.g. from helicopter landing pads or gardening and landscaping work)
  • Non-compliance with hygiene standards

Recommendations from the KRINKO guidelines

„It seems reasonable to supply not only the patient rooms but entire wards or entire ward areas with ULPA-filtered air in new buildings or a core renovation, since obviously more intensive exposure episodes also pose a relevant risk (lounge, diagnostic measures, a procedure room outside the isolation room and others) and the social isolation of patients is lower.
